The Regional Expansion of the Dermatology Photo Triage pathway involves the rollout and implementation of the image capture and eReferral pathway to all 321 GP practices in Northern Ireland. This pathway enables the capture of images for patients who present with a suspect cancer lesion and transfer of the same to secondary care for e-Triage by Consultant Dermatologists.
The DoH approved the OBC for the regional expansion of the Dermatology Photo Triage e-Referral pathway in December 2020. In response to the approval a Programme Board and Programme Team have been established to implement the regional expansion. As the Programme Team embarks on the implementation of the agreed expansion plan the Programme Team have been engaging with GP colleagues to provide training on the equipment and referral process for the pathway.
Virtual training sessions are facilitated every Wednesday afternoon and whilst these have been well attended the Programme Team recognise that given the ongoing pressures across our health service not everyone has the time to attend these sessions. To that end training material has been developed including individual training videos on each of the clinical systems used across GP practices.

These videos can be accessed at any time enabling all practice staff to avail of the training at a time which suits them. Training manuals will also be provided to each Practice as part of the regional expansion and the Photo Triage Programme Team can be contacted at PhotoTriageNI@hscni.net to answer any questions on the pathway or the training available.
